The Importance of Making a Sample
Creating a sample is essential to achieve the precise dimensions mentioned in the pattern. Here’s why it’s crucial to knit a sample:
Get familiar with the stitch and material: It allows you to test the stitch and better understand the texture of the yarn you are using.
Avoid redoing your knitting: A sample helps you check that you are on the right track before starting your project.
Follow the pattern's measurements: A correct sample is the key to achieving the right dimensions of your knitting.
How to knit your sample ?
Knit a 15 x 15 cm square using the yarn and needles recommended in the pattern. This square should be large enough to accurately measure the density of stitches and rows.
How to count your sample?
Once your square is knitted, use pins to mark a 10 cm square in the centre of the sample.
Count the number of stitches and rows contained within this 10 cm square.
Interpreting the results :
If you have fewer stitches and rows than indicated in the pattern:
This means you are knitting too loosely. To correct this, use smaller needles.
If you have more stitches and rows than indicated in the pattern:
This means you are knitting too tightly. In this case, use larger needles.
Important note :
The needle size indicated in the pattern may differ from that on the yarn label depending on the stitch used or the result desired by our designer. Therefore, it is essential to always refer to the sample indicated in the pattern to ensure your knitting matches the exact dimensions.
By following these instructions, you can be sure that your knitting will match the pattern’s dimensions, avoiding unpleasant surprises during your project.
